In our Wow Moment of the Month for last month, Connie Kelly, cardiac rehab tech, was catching up at work on a Saturday, recently, with one important task she particularly wanted to accomplish. She needed to check on a patient discharged from the hospital the day before, who had just had an angioplasty, with stents implanted. Connie called her patient at home and was startled when the woman answered the phone, extremely short of breath. Connie’s patient sounded exhausted because she was out trying to gather wood for her fireplace; it was cold outside and she was out of propane. Connie gently scolded her patient for endangering her health the day after a major procedure and immediately set about making plans. Though her patient told her no one would deliver propane on Saturday unless it was an emergency, Connie tried to call all the different propane companies in Nacogdoches and Lufkin to get some propane delivered. No luck! So Connie instead called her brother-in-law and asked him to go out to the patient’s house to bring in firewood for the weekend. A co-worker noted the following about Connie: “We should be proud to have employees like this who would give up most of her Saturday to help a patient in need.” Wow, Connie thanks for taking good care of our patients . . . and for making it a family affair!
