Wow Moment - March 2014 - Khushboo Jobanputra

In our Wow Moment of the Month for March, a patient with a complicated fracture of her leg was being discharged home and Khushboo Jobanputra, physical therapist, was worried. While in the hospital, Khushboo had trained her patient in climbing stairs with a walker while limiting the weight on the affected limb, but despite this training, the physical therapist was concerned about her patient’s safety. Her patient reported that she had 15 steps to scale to enter her home.  Though the patient had family to stay with her once she was home, Khushboo was worried about those 15 steps. She shuddered to think about the additional damage that could be caused if her patient had another fall. Our team member left her personal contact information with the patient’s nurse, so that she could be notified when the patient was discharged.  When Khushboo got the call that the patient was heading home, she came to the hospital after hours and followed her.   It was a good thing she did, too, because those 15 steps – were actually 25!  The next day at work, Khushboo expressed her relief that her patient was home safe and sound. Thank you, Khushboo, for going out of your way to ensure our patient’s safety.
