Hospital Board Honors Dr. Walker
For many, this past board meeting was bittersweet, with the swearing-in of three returning board members, while saying goodbye to another. Duncan Rogde, Lisa King and Walter Scott will all be serving another two-year term, but Dr. Larry Walker has stepped down after 18 years as an elected official. Rest assured that you'll still see Dr. Walker in the Memorial halls and surgical suites - he's not ready to retire as a surgeon.
In honor of Dr. Walker and his service to the hospital, the board branded the new surgery center as the Walker Surgery Center.
Many stories were shared by board and staff, recounting the many ways Dr. Walker has touched those around him. Nacogdoches Memorial Health CEO Scott Street and Lisa King, president of the board, unveiled a mock-up of the Walker Surgery Suite signage, with a past quote from Dr. Walker.
"How can you name something after someone who is still alive?" Walker once asked.
"That's a valid question, but we on the board decided that we prefer to honor Dr. Walker while he's around to know how we feel about him. We also wanted to see him enjoy that honor and recognition that he so rightly deserves."
