Nacogdoches Memorial Health Women's Wellness Center Now Offering Bone Density Scanning
There is a new addition to the Women's Wellness Center! In late September, the center saw their first patient for the new bone density scanner. The Lunar Prodigy Advance delivers dependable dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry assessment with exceptional precision and low-dose radiation. This new X-ray machine is supposed to provide patients and healthcare providers with precise data on soft tissue and bone composition, including bone-mineral density, lean-and-fat-tissue mass and percentage of fat.
The test, referred to as bone densitometry, takes about 10 minutes to scan the whole body.
There are many factors that contribute to osteoporosis and they are not limited to women. The Women's Wellness Center also accepts male patients, but women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis.
Amber Davis, X-ray tech, said, "the new scanner is really going to help a lot of women, as far as becoming aware of where they stand when it comes to risk of fractures and osteoporosis."
The Women's Wellness Center is already seeing around 12 patients a week for this service and expects to see more as awareness grows throughout the community.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Women's Wellness Center is offering $99 mammograms and bone density screenings through October 31, 2016.
