Do you have diabetes? Are you confused about what to eat?
Medical nutrition therapy can help you find answers to your questions about healthy eating. Our Outpatient Nutrition Center is a service provided by a registered dietitian nutritionist and features a review of what you typically eat, comprehensive nutrition assessment and an individualized nutrition treatment plan. Call our outpatient dietitian at 936-569-4605.
Whether you just found out you have diabetes or have had diabetes for years, you can benefit from meeting with our outpatient dietitian.
A dietitian can help you:
What to expect
The first visit will last one hour. You will receive individualized counseling, during which the dietitian will review your current eating habits and develop a meal plan based on your food preferences and lifestyle. Follow-up appointments last 45 minutes and are scheduled as needed. Generally, 2-3 follow-up appointments are recommended to help you successfully meet your personal health goals.
Medicare and insurance coverage
Traditional Medicare covers outpatient medical nutrition therapy for diabetes 100% (no out-of-pocket cost!). A referral from your doctor is required. Medicare covers three hours of nutrition counseling the first year, and two hours every year thereafter. If your condition or diagnosis changes, you may be able to receive additional hours of nutrition therapy with another doctor's referral.
Private insurances vary in their coverage of outpatient medical nutrition therapy, but most plans will cover MNT services for diabetes. Cash pay rates are available if you do not have insurance coverage.
